About this badge

This course was designed to prepare those engaging in “mentoring relationships” with best practices. The program started with an overview of mentoring, qualities of a good mentoring relationship, ethical considerations, and principles of social justice.

Participants were made aware of expectations and best practices to engage in a meaningful, ethical and safe mentoring relationship to help all parties build their developmental network.

Traditionally, mentoring is thought of as an older or more experienced person providing one-to-one guidance to a younger and less experienced person for their personal and professional life. In today's changing work landscape, the concept of mentoring is changing into the concept of a developmental network or set of people at different levels to assist you in your personal and professional development. The expectation of the relationship is career-related in terms of a mentor assisting a protégé in navigating exploration, skill building and networking. It is our hope that this insight will help participants feel confident and encouraged to seek out short and long-term mentoring opportunities that may exist in their community.
